The tongue is a little member
and it boasts of great things
but it becomes a large matter
in the fire that it brings

and the tongue is a fire of sort
it kindles something great
which usually becomes a blaze
from a seed sown in hate

by defiling the whole body
one’s speech has set a course
permitting hell and its demons
to utilize its force
____
and no person can tame the tongue
it destroys with a word
one needs no proof in accusing
the damage has occurred
____
who is a wise man with knowledge
whose lips he can refrain
from his conversation he shows
works of wisdom as gain
____
for it is the wisdom of God
that keeps one pure in speech
walking solely in the Spirit
each time one has to speak
____
remaining blameless before Christ
is a goal we must learn
by employing the Holy Spirit
forsake the words that burn
